What's on my Workdesk Wednesday aka WOYWW

Hello Everyone, I found this website called Stamping Ground that ask you to link up your work area, space or wherever you work at doing your craftiness.  So for the First Time ever, I will show you where I am working at now and when I will be working on soon, once hubby gets it all fixed and organized for me :}

Right now I am on the kitchen island of the house:

Here is my soon to be craft room which was the formal dining room it is 10 x 10
Here is the lights hubby got me at Ikea

Any organizational advice would be GREATLY appreciated.  Hubby wants it so everything is hidden but I really don't like the Scrapbox.  I am thinking more of Built in or just my Expedit from Ikea but I still can't decided.

  1. Since it is a dining room and can most likely be seen from the living room, I don't think I would go with built ins. I would do the Expedits. A couple of them, if fact. You can get doors or you can make doors really reasonably...there are a few Utube ideas for doors that look professional.
If you keep the table with the plastic iris carts under it, you could skirt the table to hide the plastic look. A natural linen would look fab.

  2. Hiding everything is just not practical when you do arts and crafts. At least not for me. I need stuff where I can see it. Maybe a good alternative is see through boxes?

  3. looks like a nice craft space to me already. I love everything within my reach. I believe Ikea has great storage ideas too.

  6. Welcome to WOYWW! a 10 x 10 room to be kept relatively tidy? Oh, Im kinda not qualified to help with that, as you will come to know!! If what I can see in your Island unit shot is a small part of your stash, we're going to be very intersted in your craft room as you get it working!

  7. Can't wait to see the finished project. I think that having a combo of both shelving and cubbies as well as some closed in spaces are what I would do. Putting your ribbons, buttons, flowers, colorful things in jars and see through containers looks cool out in the open and makes it look neat. Even stuff in photo boxes that are out on a shelf look good...there are some adorable photo boxes out there. OK enough of my 2 cents. I am sure what ever you come up with will be fantastic! HUGS

  8. Awesome 10 x 10 craft space.... You need those beautiful pics on your wall space too, the one you had posted on your blog several months back....
Do you have paper racks, cubby for all your pens? Tell hubby to make a door so know one can see what's in your craft room, since you said it was a formal dining area... I figured it was an open space where everyone can just look inside....

  9. Wow, you lucky girl - don't hide things away too much as you will forget you have them and buy more! Believe me, I know. I use mainly see through boxes for all my 12 x 12 papers and have all my (hundreds) stamps in binders now, which saves a lot of space. I find that I go up now with shelves crammed with things as I can see things more easily. Whatever you decide, just have fun doing it...Regards, Anne Rx #100

  11. Oooh lucky you, it's going to be amazing. Jars. Start saving them or buying them. You can put buttons, flowers etc in and they look pretty. Handy if you don't put them away. Can't wait to see when you move in properly! Enjoy this week's WOYWW snoop around the crafty & creative world. Take care Zo xx 81

  14. How exciting! Its wonderful to be planning something like this. I have the Expedit and I do love it but I wish it was ever so slightly taller in the boxes because you can't get 12x12 paper storage in them very easily. I've had to resort to covering the pizza boxes to make DIY cropper hoppers!

  16. Hi kate,

i'm so lazy i'm not going to capitalize.... i've thought of turning my little dining room into a crafting room (keeping my supplies close to hand) but it's not really that big and so i resolved to have my crafting supplies in two closets right across from eachother. i'm happy with that. i use my round dining room table as my craft work area and it gets pretty crowded!

post a photo of what you decide to do.

  17. Looks like an awesome new craft space!!! I think that whatever you pick you will make it work...whatever you hide will eventually end up on the table anyway (unless you are a much neater crafter than I am! ) Have fun fixing up your new room :)Amy

  20. 10X10 is a very nice size. Kitchen cabinet are great because you can put a counter on top and you can close the doors. There are so many sights for idea. I like old cabinets from antique stores and Goodwill. Ikea really has some great stuff. Check out Creations with Christina. I love her work space.

  23. Wow your room looks good to me already. I can never keep my stash tidy, I try and try but it always fails me. I think small units under the desk with a curtain around would be a fab idea (i think somebody else mentioned this too) And I keep all my ribbons and buttons in jars on display as they do look pretty on my shelf.
Can't wait to see the room when your finished and settled in .... Ikea is the future, I'm addicted to the place!

  24. Hey not too messy!! I don't know if I'm as brave as you to show what my area looks like right now loL! And your current space is tiny but temporary--your new craft room looks like a dream!! I agree with you, I'm going to be transforming my guest bedroom soon and I want all my stuff accessible and viewable! If it's "hidden" I will totally forget I even have it! Just my personal preference, although I agree w/ your hubby too-I like the idea of everything beautifully stored and out of sight, but realistically it wouldn't work for me! TFS some pre-pics :) happy thursday sweet Kate!

  27. Kate ~ I am beyond impressed you create ALL those fabulous things on that little space! The new space ~ AMAZING! I personally like to have alot of things in front of me. But I would like built ins so you can easily close everything up to make it look neater! But then you take the risk of forgetting what you have! I don't think I am helping! LOL. Either way your creations are just FABULOUS!
